See that's where my thoughts on Batman differ I guess. I will only read the character if the creators involved have a proven track record, I'll place my faith in that for sure. So when I bought Hush, I knew what I was getting. Loeb and Lee, what more could you ask for? Great charactisation, great artwork, cool character.

It's a great RUN, and I suppose that's where it ends for me, until the next run that I must have, which in this case is the Morrison Kubert upcoming/running arc. I will probably pick up Lapham's and Paul Pope's run on the various Batman books as well, but I'm pretty sure neither of these guys have/will reguritate the same villian that was so effective in this storyline...

I agree that Hush worked best as a "one use only" antagonist, but he could be used as a recurring villain, if used properly. The "Hush Returns" plot was poorly executed and Hush's character was poorly portrayed. It served as nothing more than a "tourist attraction" to see Hush in action yet again.

((Warning! Spoiler for DC's "One Year Later" and "Hush Returns". Warning!))

I think that DC could have done better for Hush if they chose him to be the impostor Batman during the gap before "One Year Later", especially since Batman was left essentially in control of Hush's life at the end of "Hush Returns".

Hush is a great comic. I absolutely loved it.
One thing that disappoints me, however is that DC allowed Hush to be a returning Villain and even have a follow up story. That's really lame, he was better left to this single story... but that's more of a complaint against DC than it is Hush.

[...] Batman: Hush is a dark and captivating tale by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. Batman: Hush takes you from the darkest corners of the Dark Knight’s mind to the deepest depths of his soul as he faces his toughest challenge yet. When nothing is as it seems, who can you trust, and will you be able to live with the truth? [...]
