It's very close indeed, although like you said there are some pretty damn abstract moments in there, but I'll leave that discussion to when I write the review about the book itself :). Mostly because I've read the actual book, The Gunslinger, but also because I thought it looked just downright awesome. I can verify that it lies very close to the source material, so much so that I don't know if this couldn't have been done almost solely by the artist alone (I know, I know, but I'm making a point here). The book however is _very_ abstract at times, and I'm looking forward to seeing if that doesn't come across much better in the comic than it did for me in the book.
