I’ve been waiting for this one for a very very long time. In case you didn’t know this is the Joss Whedon X-men run illustrated by the always amazing John Cassaday. It’s one of Marvel’s big hardcovers so you get 12 issues. It’s cheaper and more durable than the 32 pagers, definitely one for the shelf.

BATTLE POPE COLOR VOL 1 GENESIS TP (MR) 12.99
A few years ago I was given a couple of issues of Battle Pope. This is one of Robert Kirkman’s earliest endeavours into the world of publishing. I think he was getting this one done via his own company Funk-o-tron (I don’t have the copy in front of me and I can’t be bothered to check it online but I’m pretty sure). It’s a pretty funny book however in many ways it wasn’t doing him any favours of getting noticed by the bigger companies. With his Invincible and Walking Dead series I think Marvel saw the potential and have tapped him for many things. This is where he started, in colour no less (they were black and white comics at the time). If you insult easily nothing to see here, move along.

IRON MAN DEMON IN A BOTTLE TP 24.99
I’ve always been an Iron Man fan, simply because I like robots I think. However barring the issues done by Portacio 10 years ago and the 6 issues or whatever Warren Ellis has done I have never given this series a shot. I have been told however that this storyline was a classic and needs to be read, with Bob Layton working on it, so I’ll be checking this out for sure.

Steve Rude has been mentioned to me as an artist’s artist. So I always wanted to check out what he’s famous for. Unfortunately in a move that I really can’t understand Dark Horse has seen it fit to make these things these expensive hardcovers. All I would have liked is to get trade paperbacks of this series and Solar and Magnus. I can’t see why they don’t release them in a more affordable format. I want to read them but don’t want to shell out this much money for trying something out. Hopefully they’ll click and do something about it in the near future.

This is a graphic novel from Brian Wood. It’s strange but I thought this was meant to come out from Ait Planet Lar. However it seems that it’s coming out from Image. I’ve not heard anything to tell me that Larry Young and Brian Wood have had a falling out or something. Wood has also been releasing other stuff from other publishers such as Oni Press and Vertigo comics which makes me wonder is all. Is he just trying to just put his name out there or is there something more? This is all rumour mongering on my part but it’s just something that made me wonder.

VALLEJO & BELL ULTIMATE COLLECTION HC 29.95
Big fan of these two artists. I believe they’re husband and wife. When I was growing up the only artwork I’d see from these two was on trading cards so this should be good fun to have as a coffee table book. Definitely something to have a look at.

I’ve already reviewed this series, so if you’re looking to knock off a couple of dollars definitely check out this series, it’s a good one.
