Damn that’s a pretty small week for graphic novels and trades. That’s actually kind of good news because we had far too many releases for the end of the year. As always if you think I should really be picking up something that I simply skimmed over don’t be shy now, this is about me trying new stuff as well.
AVENGERS ABOVE AND BEYOND TP $24.99
I haven’t gotten into the whole Bendis takes over the Avengers and fucks them up scene. I’ve said this before, I’m not an avengers fan, but I am generally a Bendis fan, so I might pick up his work eventually if they release an oversized hardcover of the work (it honestly works out much cheaper than the trades, which is strange because they’re not doing them as often as we’d all really like, I’m sure).

HARDY BOYS VOL 4 MALLED HC $12.95
JOE LANSDALES DRIVE IN TP (MR) $12.99
KABUKI VOL 5 METAMORPHOSIS TP (NEW PRTG) $24.99
I reviewed the first volume of Kabuki not too long ago. This is where David Mack begins to fly. If you’ve not had a chance to look at this, I seriously recommend this series like you wouldn’t believe. I will get around to a proper indepth review of this magical series at some point. But this is a must buy (if you don’t have it or haven’t read it), I assure you.
LAND OF THE BLINDFOLDED VOL 6 $9.99
MARVEL MASTERWORKS INCREDIBLE HULK VOL 3 2ND ED HC $49.99
MARVEL MASTERWORKS INCREDIBLE HULK VOL 3 HC VAR ED $54.99
MEOW BABY GN $16.95
NANCY DREW VOL 4 THE GIRL WHO WASNT THERE GN $7.95
NANCY DREW VOL 4 THE GIRL WHO WASNT THERE HC $12.95
PENNY ARCADE VOL 1 ATTACK OF THE BACON ROBOTS TP $12.95
SAMURAI EXECUTIONER VOL 8 TP (MR) $9.95
I buy this every time it comes out, without reservation, knowing that every single one is going to be a home run. The really bad thing is that I know how this character dies in Lone Wolf and Cub (which came out in America before this, for 28 volumes), and it was a bit of an anti-climax, as he’s done with such respect in this series. Still it’s the only Samurai graphic novel that’s coming out with any consistency at the moment so you’ve got to love it and buy it just for that.
SEIMADEN VOL 3 $9.99
SHOWCASE PRESENTS GREEN ARROW VOL 1 TP $16.99
SPIDER-GIRL VOL 5 ENDGAME DIGEST TP $7.99
TEEN TITANS OUTSIDERS INSIDERS TP $9.99
TENJHO TENGE VOL 5 $9.99
WARREN ELLIS APPARAT VOL 1 TP (MR) $12.99
This was one of Warren Ellis’s shot-gun ideas. He had like a few ideas in his Treo which he wrote on the can (I made that last bit up, but I could always be right about these things), and then decided to make these one shot stories. I’ve heard good things about this and it obviously wasn’t a financial fuck-up as he’s prepping up Apparat II, where he writes his ideas on his upgraded Treo on the bus. I can’t vouch for the artwork, as traditionally, anything Warren Ellis related coming out of Avatar is usually sub-par. I’m sorry, but his collaborators can’t hold a candle to the likes of Tom Raney, Bryan Hitch, John Cassaday, Chris Sprouse, the Global Frequency crew, or Darick Robertson, so it’s unfair comparison I guess, but if I’m the customer and I’m paying then I demand that the artwork be as top notch as the writing, plenty of other books on the market that can deliver both.
WEAPON X DAYS OF FUTURE NOW TP $13.99
WITCH VOL 4 BETWEEN LIGHT AND DARK GN $4.99
X-MEN KITTY PRYDE SHADOW & FLAME TP $14.99
YURI MONOGATARI VOL 3 GN (MR) $14.95
