I’m actually not all that interested in any of the books on offer this week. Which is just as well since as you can imagine I went into the store last week and picked up a couple of books that I didn’t originally think that I’d be buying. The big one for me was Judge Dredd | The Complete Case Files Volume 1. This is a collection of all the Judge Dredd stories starting right from the beginning. It’s like an essentials from Marvel, however the production value on these books and the trade dress is oh so much higher. You actually want these books. You know you do. So go pick it up. Trust me on this one.

I’ve got the first version that was released a few years ago when JML decided to move over and publish his books via Image Comics. I guess those hardcovers didn’t sell because when they released the first volume a month ago that was as a trade paperback as well, rather than following what was done before. Obviously I bought those two books (1.5 was filled with supplemental material). If you’ve not dived into the world of Dawn, it’s a great book, with great art (a little too T&A for my liking, as I’m a bit older and wiser now a little less impressed by the titlation).

I guess I would be picking this up, if I didn’t stop reading Powers a while ago. When they left Image to be honest, simply because I didn’t like the political direction that Bendis wanted to push in that book. It’s not so much that I don’t like politics in my comic books, it’s just that I hate it when I get shit like this on the news to also subject myself to my comic book entertainment to be sullied with this garbage and mickey mouse politics. Nah thanks, not interested. I’d rather watch Fox news…actually scrap that I’d never watch Fox news.
PUNISHER MAX VOL 2 HC $29.99
I’ve not actually had a chance to check out Garth Ennis’s work on the new Punisher series from the Max imprint at Marvel. I read his earlier stuff (you know with the Russian and Spacer Dave) and I honestly wasn’t all that impressed. I’d just gotten into reading Preacher and to be fair Ennis hasn’t written anything since then that even comes CLOSE to it’s brilliance. It’s a crying shame because the man has obviously got a lot of talent, I just think he’s completely wasted at Marvel. Get the fuck out of there Garth. Go back to Vertigo and create something new we can all love.

I have absolutely no idea what the hell all these graphic novels are. A quick internet search reveals that Rosen is actually an educational publisher. If anyone’s actually going to pick one these up could you possibly tell me what you think. I doubt my comic book stores will be picking up any of these but I could be completely wrong.
