Wow, 50th post already. See if this was the mid-90s then I’d be releasing this post as a foil cover hologram special edition post…okay enough of the in jokes (to those who don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry you didn’t miss much). Back to our regular slot of the week to see what stuff is coming out this week. Glad to report it’s actually somewhat better than the last couple of weeks which has been thin. As always if you think there’s a book I really should be looking out for just shout and I’ll definitely flick through it in the store before I decide to buy it (hey at least I’m honest about these things).

CRYING FREEMAN VOL 1 TP $14.95
I’m a huge fan of the movie. This was inadvertedly my first exposure to the work of Kazuo Koike. Koike is the man behind the seminal Lone Wolf and Cub, along with a slew of other fantastic creations that live on in loads of Dark Horse Collections (from Lady Snowblood to Samurai Executioner). This is a series I’ve always wanted to buy, but I guess I need the insentive for Dark Horse to reprint these into several chunky volume (this one clocks in at over 200 pages).

AUTHORITY REVOLUTION BOOK TWO 2 (MR) $14.99
I have been waiting for this like you wouldn’t believe. Unfortunately it also ends Ed Brubaker’s playing around in the Wildstorm Universe, which is a shame as the man seriously knew what the deal was. I’m going to be giving a full review of the second part tomorrow as I’ve already read through this, and to say I wasn’t diappointed is an understatement.

Didn’t actually get this, although I would have very much wanted to. I do fully intend to get the entire Maxx series from the great Sam Keith. It’s a series that harkens back to the early days of me reading comics so it’ll be a huge nostalgia trip. Plus I think I might actually understand a thing or two this time round.

I read the review on Newsarama, and knew then I had to buy it. The trade paperback has got an introduction by Alex Ross, loads of additional pages, comes in an landscape publishing format and is one of the good saves by Image Comics from the ill fated Speakeasy comic book company. Once again this book will be getting a serious reviewing pretty soon so don’t worry, but it’s seems very well thought out and the artwork is unique if nothing else, believe me that’s harder to type than you think.

I saw this on the shelf and was seriously tempted, however I think I’ll wait for the trade paperback to be honest. I don’t think this sort of book needs to be bought in hardcover format. For those in the dark the writer is one Orson Scott Card, here’s the Marvel details. Definitely will check it out, just not enough of an Iron man or Card fan to go full out for this treatment is all.

Crap, I missed this volume. I’ve talked about Naruto before, even though I really should write a review or two about this extremely fun and addictive series. It’s about Ninjas in training, and it’s told on an epic scale. There is mystery, there is intrigue and there is a seriously old skool japanese feel to everything about this series. Highly Highly recommended.
